Good guide, covers ground not covered in owners manual. Gets more into the how to aspects of using the camera.
It is well worthwhile to do a cursory read through of the book so that when you come upon a particular situation you can quickly go the section of the book to see how you should set your camera to handle it. This is the first time I purchased a book as a supplement to the Instruction manual that came with the camera. On the pages that show you the buttons and line drawings of the camera, the related identifications take you to the page #s where the information related to its use and are described in more detail. I believe that Peter Burian also writes articles and test reports for Shutterbug magazine. I found many tips in the book in addition to recommended settings and explanations that the instruction manual does not include. I often come upon a photographic situation and I will go back to the book to see if I handled it correctly. This is a book that is written so that a beginner to intermediate to semi-pro will benefit from it. I would highly recommend this book, a large value for a small price.
I bought this book on a recommendation from a friend who told me it covered a lot of information not in the owner's manual. However, I found that only about 5% of the information isn't in the owner's manual. The best thing about it is that it is more readable than the manual and it includes a small card, with many of the most used functions, that you can pack with you when shooting. It is an OK book, but not outstanding.
Good advice on best practices. The Magic Lantern Guides are essential for getting to know your new camera. Nuances of digital photography. Far better than product manual. Introduced me to features that allow full enjoyment of the Pentax K10D
Great guide if you have hours to read and digest it all. Not much for quick review of settings.
